Job Description

Mission Telecom, a leading non-profit wireless broadband provider and grantmaking foundation, is seeking a Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CFAO) to serve as a senior leader responsible for the organization’s financial stewardship, administrative integrity, and operational rigor. The CFAO is a member of the senior leadership team and partners closely with the Executive Director to ensure sound financial management, compliance, and long-term sustainability across Mission Telecom and its affiliated entities.

This is a build-stage CFO role. At this phase of Mission Telecom’s growth, the CFAO will be hands-on in core financial and administrative functions while simultaneously building the systems, processes, and internal capacity that enable scale. Responsibilities currently require direct engagement and are expected to transition over time as the organization grows. Candidates should be comfortable operating in complexity, executing in the present, and designing for the future.

The CFAO reports to the Executive Director. Strategic direction, prioritization, and final decision-making authority sit with the Executive Director; the CFAO operates as a senior partner and advisor within that structure.

Core Areas of Responsibility, Financial Stewardship & Reporting

Own the accuracy, integrity, and clarity of financial reporting across Mission Telecom and its affiliated entities. Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis to support executive and board decision-making.

Compliance, Audit & Risk

Ensure compliance with GAAP and all applicable federal, state, and nonprofit regulatory requirements. Oversee audits, tax filings, internal controls, insurance coverage, and organizational risk management.

Systems, Infrastructure & Scale

Design, implement, and continuously improve financial systems, policies, and processes that support growth and operational maturity. Lead financial systems integration and evolution (e.g., ERP, CRM, billing, payments) to ensure scalability and transparency.

Investment & Board Partnership

Provide oversight of investments and investment reporting. Serve as a primary liaison to the Investment Advisor and support the Finance Committee with clear, actionable financial insights aligned with organizational strategy.

Team Leadership & Internal Capacity

Lead and develop the finance function, currently including two staff members, with a focus on role clarity, accountability, and sustainable internal capacity. Build systems that reduce reliance on single individuals over time.

Certain highly specialized or legacy technical work may be temporarily supported by consultants or subject-matter experts during transition periods. The CFAO is accountable for outcomes, continuity, and long-term solutions — not for serving as the permanent executor of all technical tasks.

Core Competencies

  • Executive-level financial judgment and integrity
  • Ability to translate complex financial information for non-finance leaders and board members
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Capacity to pivot and redesign as strategy evolves
  • Strong systems thinking across finance, operations, and technology platforms
  • Collaborative leadership style grounded in accountability and trust

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting; MBA or CPA strongly preferred
  • Senior finance leadership experience, including responsibility equivalent to a CFO role in complex nonprofit and/or LLC environments
  • Experience leading and developing finance teams
  • Deep familiarity with nonprofit and LLC financial structures and compliance
  • Experience with financial systems implementation and integration, specifically NetSuite, Quickbooks, and Salesforce
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, ASC 606, and financial reporting standards
  • Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills
