Job Description
The Coordinator for Programming & Campus Traditions reports to the Director of Student Life and
Engagement. This role provides leadership in developing, implementing, and assessing campus-wide programs and special events that foster
student engagement, belonging, and community at Austin Peay State University. The coordinator provides holistic student support, advises the
Govs Programming Council, and collaborates with campus partners to deliver meaningful co-curricular experiences (e.g., homecoming, family
weekend, welcome back).
This position collaborates in a cross-Divisional and cross-institutional approach to administer the
services, functions, and activities related to student support services. The coordinator guides and advises students in designing programs
that create a sense of belonging and campus pride. The coordinator will serve with a student-centered approach that contributes to a caring
and safe campus life environment that supports the holistic success of students.

Responsibilities include: Campus-Wide Programming and Special Events
- Provide
vision and leadership for the planning, coordination, and implementation of campus-wide programs and special events.
- Plan and
execute major campus traditions such as Family Weekend, Welcome Back, Homecoming, and other signature events.
- Develop programs that
meet the unique needs of commuter and nontraditional student populations.
Advising and Student Development
- Recruit,
select, train, and advise members of the Govs Programming Council.
- Support students in the design and implementation of programs
that enhance learning, engagement, and personal development.
- Foster leadership development, collaboration, and creativity among
student planners.
Event Administration and Operations
- Manage event marketing, promotion, and communication efforts,
including development of a campus-wide events calendar.
- Monitor event budgets and track all receipts and expenditures in accordance
with university policies.
- Maintain accurate records, data, and assessments related to programs and events.
Collaboration and Professional Development
- Work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, outside vendors, and
campus partners to deliver comprehensive programming.
- Participate in planning and goal setting for the Department of Student Life
and Engagement.
- Stay current with trends, best practices, and research related to student programming, engagement, and event
planning.
- Engage in ongoing professional development.
Department and
Division
- Maintain open communications with the Director for Student Life & Engagement to share information and engage in
issue-spotting and creative problem-solving to benefit the University community.
- Work with the Director to coordinate major campus
events and traditions.
- Work with the Assistant Director and Director to monitor the departmental budget in accordance with APSU
policies and procedures.
- Collaborates with community partners to provide experiences to support student
engagement.
- Coordinate timely and accurate preparation of reports.
- Stay informed and educate the University community and
stakeholders as needed regarding engagement issues and trends.
- Participate in related professional organizations for continuing
development.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree and
related experience.
- Skills that exemplify collaboration, communication, action and advocacy.
- Ability to lead, develop, and
work with staff.
- Advanced oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to administer multiple deadlines and tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and assess data.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
Preferred Skills and Qualifications :
Complementing the required skills and qualifications:
- Master's degree or at least 2 years of related experience as a full-time professional or graduate assistant.
- Experience
with leading special initiatives, programs, and strategic planning.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and decision-making
skills.
- Knowledge of student development and learning outcomes related to programming.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks
simultaneously.
