  • Thorough knowledge of HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules, federal and state regulations, and ability to implement organization-wide systems to implement and manage compliance. 
  • Experience in health care management required.
  • Master's Level education preferred; BA/BS required. 
  • Convenient if bilingual in English/Spanish, and/or ability to sign. 
  • Candidate has not been sanctioned or excluded from participation in federal or state healthcare programs by a federal or state law enforcement, regulatory, or licensing agency.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check in relation to the position applied for.

Day to Day:

  • Responsible for developing a HIPAA-compliant privacy program and ensuring oversight and monitoring to protect the integrity of PHI are enforced. 
  • Deliver or oversee ongoing employee privacy training, conduct risk assessments, and develop HIPAA-compliant procedures when necessary.
  • Monitor compliance with the privacy program, investigate incidents in which a breach of PHI may have occurred, report breaches as necessary, and ensure patients’ confidentiality.
  • Ensure patients’ rights in accordance with state and federal laws.
  • Keep up to date with relevant state and federal laws.
  • Work with Information Technology staff to develop a Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • Train and supervise Health Care Information staff.
  • Manage Health Care Information department consistent with medical, ethical, and legal requirements.
  • Assure confidentiality to health care information by restricting access to authorized individuals only.
  • Supervise and participate in records organization, retrieval and retention.
  • Assure use of appropriate release of health care information and prepare correspondence to respond to requests.
  • Develop and perform departmental quality assurance reviews.
  • Monitor and distribute assignments among staff.
  • Work with other supervisors and administrative staff to address organization-wide issues, including program development, personnel policies, employee evaluations, training needs, safety concerns and quality assurance indicators. 
  • Maintain organized, clean, efficient and confidential work area.
  • Perform related work as requested.
